South Island road trip

We arrived in Christchurch Tuesday afternoon (very sad to see the city post earthquake).

Collected our campervan and set off for Banks Peninsula. Weather forecast not looking good but woke up to the sun shining to my delight! Loved the boatsheds, they are one of my first paintings! Did the scenic tour back with one rather hair-raising road but got some great shots. Onto Kaikoura, seals, breath-taking scenery and whitebait fritters for lunch! Looked like a break in the weather so over to the West Coast via a very snowy Lewis pass...wild dramatic landscape and lots of cool shacks! One snap happy artist! Loved every minute of travelling around absorbing the sights. Hokitika to Westport to watch the rugby! A quick look at Granity where my great-great grandfather was born! Through Bullers gorge and over the Takaka hill to sunny Golden Bay. Ran out of time for a good explore up there...but I will return!

Back to work today and fully inspired by the mindblowingly beautiful South Island. Can't wait to get back there again for more exploring.. next times will be the middle third and the bottom with Stewart Island. Better let the bank balance recover a bit first though! Starting four new paintings tomorrow when I pick up my canvases. Yay!!!
